FOR THE JOY OF PLAYING AND THE LOVE OF LEARNING
WHO’S IN THE HOUSE?
A  community engagement project
with multiple strands…
Music House is focused on meeting the existing needs of  local communities.

Who’s In The House (WITH) aims to positively address inequalities of the people living in surrounding areas (eg Little London, Woodhouse, Hyde Park) where community arts and creatives outlets are few and far between.

This project is lead by Music House Creative Director, Christella Litras with support from Nekela Alleyne, Business Development Officer and pastoral care.

Choirs
Three exciting, inclusive FREE choirs have been created at part of this project.  Click on the links to find out more.

These choirs are intended as a pathway for continued learning and participation by those who are taking part.

Show and Tell: Saturday 20 April 2024
This is an internal opportunity for staff, trustees, teachers and different groups who use Music House,  to learn about WITH and share experiences.

It’s an opportunity for everyone to contribute, to talk about themselves and shed a little light on what they do.

This part of the project will generate a sense of belonging, identity, appreciation and common purpose.

Open House: Saturday 29 June 2024
We’ll be throwing open our doors and inviting the public in to have a look around. People will get a first-hand insight into what happens in our beautiful, community space.

Taster sessions including music and short performances; chance to hear more about some of our exciting plans and the opportunity to get involved with a gentle public consultation.

Light refreshments will be available.

Mini Jams: Outreach sessions
A series of outreach engagement sessions aimed at recruiting 11- 18 year olds from primary / high schools / community settings to take part in the next phase of the project:  Jam Around The Table – New Wave.

The mini-jam engagement sessions will create a relaxed vibe where food will be shared.

Christella and Nekela will encourage the young people they meet to talk about themselves and what they like to do. There will be group singing and open mic moments.

Note: Both Christella and Nekela are CRB checked and have managed many projects involving young people.

Jam Around the Table: New Wave
This part of the project will build on the pre-existing ‘Jam Around the Table’ initiative which was lead by Geraldine Connor Foundation. It involved young people (aged 17-22) who may not have had access to participatory creative opportunities.

There’ll be three day-sessions as follows:

 15 June   |   22 June    |  5 July

Sharing music, chat and food in a relaxed, safe space – the young people will be encouraged to have the confidence to stand up and be heard.

Performance at Leeds Playhouse
A finale show at Leeds Playhouse as part of open season.

More information to follow about this in the coming months so please keep checking the page for updates.
